News from the board

Dear members,

That was the season – or was it? We may have played our final match and thus officially ended our golf season, but with 16 degrees at the end of October, who wants to stop….

The autumn fourball was introduced at the time for the few who wanted to play a little longer. And after that it was a maximum of five clubs in a carrying bag or wait until the grass grows again. Those times are long gone for a large group of our members. Now it's 14 clubs with fully charged batteries on the trolley, preferably all winter.

And on the one hand that's great, on the other hand we have to look at what the pitch can actually handle. The animals are of course the worst offenders, but we should do more to ensure our pitch is in proper condition when the season starts with the opening match in April.

It is part of our basic narrative that we can play in Dyrehaven all year round. That is one of the unique qualities of being a member of KGK. It is also clear that KGK is a club owned by, run by and always for the members.

When the Board of Directors has approved the new winter rules, it will be based on the above.

We saw a very clear improvement after the mat mandate last year. Therefore, from November 15th until spring, we are introducing a requirement for the use of mats on tees, fairways and foregreens. We have purchased new mats that are easier to carry and use.

We are introducing appointments at all times, and members can book before guests. We know many older members are active all winter, so the use of carts is still allowed, but if you can, please use a carrier bag. We are raising the winter green fee a little, but we would rather not close it completely to guests and thus wave goodbye to the not insignificant winter green fee income we have.

The 1st and 18th greens will be closed to play for a few months and we have also given the green light for the head greenkeeper to close the course primarily in the morning hours if there is frost, a lot of water or snow.

The administration will ensure that the winter rules are visible in the club. The Board of Directors simply has a request to all of you: Help us ensure that the rules are adhered to and remember that you can continue to enjoy yourself on the 19th hole – the restaurant is open.

Our location in Dyrehaven is a daily joy, but not without challenges. Our new short game area is still a long way off – if it comes at all. There are professional studies and public permits with hearings and hopefully a decision during the winter or spring.

Similarly with the water tap on the 10th hole, where the drinking water now needs to be checked and cleaned of many things. However, we are still working on a solution for purification equipment for drinking water, which will hopefully be arranged during the winter - and then we just wait for the approval of the authorities...

Thank you for a wonderful golf season – and welcome to winter golf in KGK.

Cross Country 2021

Cross Country of the Year

In glorious October weather we completed this year's Cross Country - "a good walk spoiled". The course is challenging enough for everyday play, but on this day a scramble is played across the holes...and especially the rough.

That's why Jacob and the greenkeepers also went the extra mile for the participants with white glögg, hot cocoa, duck rillette and many other goodies.

Once inside the clubhouse, the tournament's regular sponsor "Rosé, Vin og Bobler" by Henrik Sølver served delicious wines and bubbles suitable for autumn, Christmas and New Year.

This year's happy winning team was:

Oskar Becker Frederiksen, Kersi Porbunderwalla and Annette Suhr

No. 2: Helle Boier, Anita Näsberg and Jan Becker Hansen.

No. 3: Kenneth Kromann, Kristin Strøm and Annette Halken.

Congratulations to all participants, thank you to our sponsor and thank you for a wonderful day.

Jacob's White mulled wine recipe for about 50 people.

1500 g cane sugar

8 organic oranges, juice plus grated peel of all.

5 organic lemons, juice of 5 plus grated zest of 2

½ liter of organic orange juice

21 cinnamon sticks

10 star anise

3 teaspoons ground cardamom

50 g peeled organic ginger, cut into thin slices.

3 liters of cardboard white wine

The ingredients are boiled and left in the pot until the next day in the fridge.

The filling is 1 kg of almond slivers and 1 kg of raisins, which are poured over with boiling brine consisting of 2 liters of water and 500 g. of regular sugar. Also poured over with 1 dl. Amaretto. The filling also lasts until the next day in the fridge.

The next day, strain the spices from the cooked spiced white wine and add 5 liters of white wine to the mulled wine.

Add ½ bottle of akvavit, 1 dl dark rum and 1 dl vodka and then do not let the mulled wine boil.

Add the filling without too much brine and heat well.

The white mulled wine is ready to serve. Note: regarding white wine. Here I always use a cheap white wine, as I prefer to drink the expensive white wine nicely chilled instead. Of course, you can choose what you use. However, it must be a regular dry white wine.

Final match in KGK & Sir Alan Johnstone wins 2021.

The year's final tournament was played on October 23rd in beautiful autumn weather. As is tradition, it is a flag game tournament.

The winners of the day were Jannie Steffen, who reached the 19th hole, and Hans Victor won the men's game with the ball in the hole on the 18th hole. Congratulations.

The two winners were allowed to choose first from the great prizes from House of Excellence, which included delicious exercise watches from Sector, exclusive credit card holders from Montblanc and beautiful bracelets from Rebel & Rose. In addition, fun Christmas socks as prizes.

Thank you to House of Excellence for supporting the Closing Tournament.

Sir Alan Johnstone 2021

The oldest trophy in KGK, originally donated by an English diplomat, Sir Alan Johnstone in 1911. It has been played for ever since, except for a few years during the war and during Covid-19 in 2020. This year it was won by Christian Tage Hansen in a close match against Thomas Buch Jensen. Big congratulations.
