News from the board

Dear members,

March 27, 2023

Your second home
Let's just say it: It's not a given that an association, run by volunteers, funded by its members, located in the middle of a protected park, at the mercy of weather, wind and 2000 grazing, playful deer, can reach its 125th anniversary. But we have done that in KGK, and we are in top shape. That's why we are happy and proud to invite every one of our members to join us in celebrating KGK for a week in August.

The celebration is for everyone. There will be tournaments of almost every kind. For those who want to get up early, for those who only want to play with ladies, gentlemen or only with young people, or only with their own partner, only with old clubs, only with beginners or don't want to play on the course at all, but like to putt. And all of course accompanied by fantastic prizes and lots of good food.

Because we really want you to take part in the party, even though we know that the community is changing.

And therein lies the point. Because we cannot sit back and enjoy what we have achieved, we must stay focused on how we survive the next 125 years with our souls intact.

Here you feel at home
How do we make KGK your second home, as it has been for children and adults for generations, when KGK is so much in your genes that no matter when in life you return, this is where you feel at home? Because we have to face the fact that we have become less united as a club, and more find communities in those we know. That trend will only become clearer in the future, "me" rather than "us".

If the association is to survive, it is therefore so important that we remember to greet each other and that we respect each other on the course. That we use the restaurant, which now has more "rooms within the room" and that our tournaments are more targeted at those who want to play against and with each other. In the same way, we stick to the ball running times, because we get both a smooth process, life around the nice new training facilities and time to greet each other before we rush out to the 1st tee.

The track needs to be even better
Once upon a time, the highest handicap was 36 strokes, and it was best not to go out on the course until you had learned the swing. But if we are to maintain membership, we must get used to the fact that some players will hit the first shot from the markings far out on the fairway, if that is what brings golf joy.

There is no doubt that the course is completely unique in its fantastic surroundings. But it is the game of golf that is at the center. Both members and guests expect a course in top shape, even though it must be able to withstand a lot, both from animals and people. For many years now, we have been yearning for close fairways and greens areas and uniform and even greens. We are still working hard on this and have brought in more talented people. The results are visible.

A more tangible challenge we see in the future is climate change, with the risk of both drought and too much water and the requirement to reduce CO2. That is why we are making plans for both a new irrigation system and geothermal heating at the driving range, if the authorities will give us permission.

In general, we are constantly taking stock of what we see coming. We play more in the mild winters, but since the grass doesn't grow back until spring, we have to accept the mats. We use all the new technology we can see that makes sense, we purchase new machines, we reach you on social media, offer a course guide on the App and have opened up Trackman games in the practice room.

We have to move.
So the future is already here, and all that we sigh for when we read about “the good old days” is not something the board has abolished. It is simply the result of members coming and going and those who don’t move, go backwards. But at the same time, we must hold on to what makes KGK something very special, our second home.

While golfers are getting older and older and continuing to live active lives, we can be happy that KGK has one of Denmark's largest junior departments. This is where our future lies. This is where talents grow, and this is also where the seeds of lifelong love are planted.

A love that does not only apply to the game of golf, but is a love for Copenhagen Golf Club for 125 years. The love that makes us still exist and will continue to do so for the next 125 years.

Congratulations. May you all have a fantastic golf anniversary year.

Final BMW Golf Experience 2022

Who has the Green Area's best golfers among its members? The clubs Søllerød, Kokkedal, Furesø and Copenhagen fought on Friday, August 19, to become the best golf club in the Green Area.

Four players from each club lined up in each of the following ranks (defined by BMW Jan Nygaard):

Women – handicap +8.0 – 28.0

Mr. A – hcp. +8.0 – 12.9

Men B – handicap 12.9 – 28.0

Junior – handicap +8.0 – 36.0

Despite the weather (dusty rain with occasional breaks) there were great scores and a fantastic and atmospheric afternoon/evening. There was a tough and intensive fight right to the end, but it was Furesø who ended up winning by 1 point over KGK. (575-574) Big congratulations to them on the great team trophy – we will take it next year.

The BONUS prize for the best male in the A and B rows and the best female in the final qualified for the BMW Golf Cup Nordic Final at Brohoff Slott in Stockholm in September (2 days with accommodation), where further participation in the BMW World Final is contested.

In the men's B-series, it was won by KGK member Jan Becker Hansen and best woman was won by KGK member Jannie Steffen. BIG congratulations to them – we will cheer when they play at Brohoff Slott in Stockholm.

See all the winning results here.

Delicious barbecue food, festive drinks, delicious wine from the sponsors were served, and it was all spiced up with music from the evening's DJ.

A huge thank you to the sponsors BMW by Jan Nygaard AS, Rotunden Hellerup & Morsø.

Team Sky, KGK's women's team in the 2nd division

In the first game weekend we were supposed to meet CGC and Hjortespring..

Team Sky has been approached by a star player from Silkeborg Golf Club, as 23-year-old Cecilie Bofill has chosen KGK as her home club after she moved to the capital to pursue an education.

Already from her junior years, Cecilie showed herself to be a dedicated player with a penchant for professionalism down to the smallest detail, as well as an exemplary on- and off-court performance. Had that changed since she converted her amateur status to pro? – NO, not at all.

CGC/KGK:

For the team against CGC, Julia Talvela, Dagmar Sørensen and Benedicte Brent-Bucholz were selected to play the singles and Eva Fabricius-Bjerre and Cecilie Bofill the foursome. With this player material, there has now been a generational change on KGK's women's team, as the average age of the 5 players is 18½ years.

CGC performed well and put a lot of pressure on us, especially on the first 9 holes. But then it was as if the tournament routine had been knocked off and the winning shots were found. Julia won 3/2 and Benedicte the same, while Dagmar had to play the 18th hole to finish in order to record a 2/0 victory.

We also win the foursome, but not without a fight. After hole 6, the two young KGK ladies were 2 down, believed to have a clearly better swing technique and ball understanding. Around hole 8, Cecilie chose to leave the driver in the back. Not that the drives didn't hit the fairway, but the balls just got closer and closer to the semi-rough when they had come to rest 245-250 meters from the tee!! But with a 2 iron, which Cecilie hits 220 meters with, and stringy to understand, she also has a backup weapon in the back, which is more than useful. Cecilie and Eva turned the tables and deservedly won 3/2.

Stag Jump/KGK:

On Sunday, the same players as against CGC were to play against Hjortespring, and everyone who has been there knows how technically demanding this relatively short course is. Precision is clearly preferable to length. On Saturday, Hjortespring, who were relegated from the 1st division in 2021, had won away against Helsingør 9/0. We met an opponent who was highly motivated for another victory.

On paper, i.e. handicap-wise, the girls seemed to be matched, but Hjortespring made the most of their home advantage. However, both teams had to find their best game to prevent their opponent from running away.

And it was really exciting in the end, but with a boring result for us. All our matches were lost in 18 holes. Super sad. Because a round shaving of 9/0 does not show the true difference between the two teams. I do not want to belittle Hjortespring's victory, BUT 9/0 ....!!.

We look forward to meeting the "lads" from Hjortespring in the return match in mid-August, where the rough will be tall, juicy, dense and scary.

Thanks for a great weekend to the team.
