Life at the KGK Old Boys Club in August 2022.

August range

A busy August has ended and we are looking forward to an even busier September. The highlight of the month was undoubtedly the annual match with the Tuesday Club. Minutes follow below – but we would like to say a big thank you again to our 2 sponsors: Rosé, Wine & Bubbles by Henrik Sølver and WEALTH MANAGEMENT for their support in connection with this year's match!

Results matches in August

August 5 we were supposed to play 4+7+9 in both rows – but we ended up playing 1+2+3+4 in the A row and 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8 in the B row. This was because the match management decided early in the morning to honor the players who braved the very unstable weather and the large amount of rain and completed today's round. The winner in the A row was Erik Fabrin, in the B row Niels Holst Laursen and in the C row Mogens Olesen. (Impressive how the 80+ year olds "take care of the dishes" – respect!)

Unlike the C-series, the 18-holes have no applause prize on Fridays and since only 2 bottles of wine were handed out the last 2 times we played 4+7+9, the match management found it OK, the way it was done this one time.

August 12 We finally managed to make a starting list after it had to be changed a few times due to extraordinary circumstances 🙂 It's a lot of work every time and therefore great when it succeeds. On Wednesday we reached 44 players for 18 holes and 16 for 9 holes = 60 players = everyone who registered came along.

The next day you cross your fingers that you don't receive any cancellations – this year there were 3 cancellations for the 9-hole event after the start list was sent out – WOW! 2 of them were men – very annoying!

After the match, there was criticism again that the match management had set 4.5 hours for the match, which some found to be far too little. The match management is of the opinion that a Greensome is played faster than a normal Stableford match, as the 4 players after their drive only play 2 balls and all other things being equal it should go faster than when 3 players play 3 balls on each hole? So 4 hours for 18 holes (13 minutes per hole) + 30 minutes to get in and hand in scorecards should be able to be met by EVERYONE – and we played with the gentlemen from Tee 52, which should also make it all much faster!

We need to have a time limit to ensure that the participants do not spend the whole day out on the course and we also have consideration for the sponsors, who do not have the whole day set aside for our match! Therefore, there will also be a time limit in the future – whether it will be 4.5 or 5 hours, we will have to wait and see until next year. Perhaps KGK will also be willing to set aside more time than the normal 2 hours for the start, so that we can start the match on more holes – after all, we only have this match format once a year?

Unfortunately, the match management experienced the nightmare that must not happen – namely that the published result turned out to be incorrect 🙁 The office had regrettably made a typing error, which was only corrected after everyone had received their prizes. Anne Ibsen and Niels Walløe turned out to have scored 39 points and were therefore entitled to receive the 3rd prize. We have subsequently given a bottle of wine to both of them and apologize many times for the mistake, which should not have happened, but which did happen.

Thanks to the members who wrote after the match to thank them for a good event – great that not only the negative ones are 'heard' 🙂

The result of the match was that Lis Gerlif and Poul Birch won with a total of 44 points.

The 9-hole tournament was won by Kenneth Troedsson/Jørgen Carlsen.

In recent years, the winners have not been satisfied with our walking prize – a Bernadotte thermos jug from Georg Jensen – one for the lady and the same for the gentleman – so in the future we will no longer use them.

Maybe we'll go back to the previous walking prize for the winning gentleman consisting of an old rusty putter and nothing for the winning lady – or maybe we'll drop a walking prize altogether.

Rosé, Wine & Bubbles had a lovely wine tasting with unique prices only valid for today's participants – Wealth management had a raffle again this year in connection with their presentation and for the second year in a row Karsten Philip won – a lovely bottle of champagne.

August 19 4th division at this year's Tee Championship this time from Tee 49 – almost the same teeing ground as we played from the week before for the match with the Tuesday Club, as many holes have the same teeing ground for 49 and 52.

On Wednesday morning we had 16 registered and on Thursday morning 13 – two 9-hole players had registered, but apparently regretted it – sad, when you have made a start list after 16 players. On Friday morning we were 12 players – the last one had probably looked at the weather forecast, which promised rain, cloudbursts and maybe thunder – but but but – what did it end up with? The most beautiful golfing weather with absolutely no wind, a little muggy, but absolutely wonderful weather to play in and the day ended with very good scores!

The result was that Ib Jacobsen won with a whopping 45 points ahead of Michael Ankjær with 37 and Arve Sund with 36 points and Erling Kjølhede also with 36 points.

The 9-hole tournament was won by Mikael Thorsen with 19 points ahead of Anders Scheuer Nielsen with 17. The clap award went to Niels Jørgen Jæger.

The board had arranged for a small exhibition of BMW models that the fastest Old Boys could enjoy while they waited for everyone to come in 🙂

August 26 Modified Stroke Play

It was a hot round of golf that all players were exposed to on this last Friday in August? We played stroke play and the A-row was won by Niels Kofoed ahead of Michael Gerlif and the B-row by Poul Hansen ahead of Nils Winther.

The C-row played Stableford from Tee 52 and Poul Birch won ahead of Niels Jørgen Jæger.

The restaurant is closing!

As announced in this month's KGK Newsletter, the restaurant will close on October 10 for renovation over the winter and will reopen in March 2023. This will have an impact on Old Boys on October 14, 21, and 28, the last Friday of which is our General Assembly and Final Match.

Peter and Christian are working on a solution to our challenges regarding the holding of the General Assembly, which may have to take place outdoors standing under the new awnings and the meal standing in the Lounge or vice versa - but more on that as we get closer.

Birthdays

On Tuesday, September 27, member 1-1960 Tommy Thomsen can celebrate his 65th birthday.

On Wednesday, September 28, member 1-1020 Carsten Buhl Trosborg can celebrate his 70th birthday.

The board sends its regards to both of them.

Greetings from Finn Krog

The chairman spoke to Finn on the phone earlier this month. He has had his blood replaced and this has meant a noticeable improvement, although there is still a long way to go before we see Finn on the golf course again.

He has asked me to say hello to everyone. That is all. We continue to wish him a very good recovery and hope that his rehabilitation will now go faster than before.

OOM Position with approximately 2 months remaining

A-rank: Erik Fabrin 31 points, Niels Walløe 30 points and Michael Gerlif 27 points
