We might as well go straight to the results from the Regional Final, because that is definitely worth celebrating 😊:
KGK's juniors simply won the Regional Finals in DGU's Team Tournament in boats U16M and U25 series by winning the semifinals and finals in convincing style this weekend! That means gold medals – the best team in Eastern Denmark – and thus a trip to Hammel this coming weekend, where the national final will be played – one final, one winner at the national level. It simply doesn't get any better! HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE JUNIORS, CC and KGK with the absolutely incredible result!
The details:
In early summer, two out of three KGK teams advanced from the preliminary pools in the Team Tournament as overwhelming pool winners in the U16M series (popularly called the “Boys’ Team”) and the U25 series (popularly called the “Girls’ Team”). Both teams thus advanced directly to the Regional Finals, which were held on Sunday, September 21st at Rønnede Golf Club’s facility. Both teams are repeats in the Regional Finals, as both teams also qualified for the Regional Finals in 2024, met each other in the semi-finals and left with maximum benefit: gold and bronze medals. Perhaps it was the experience that made 2025 even better!
The boys met in the semi-final the Fusion team “Frederikssund” – a melting pot of old stars from several clubs. KGK were highly motivated and won the first single 3&2 and narrowly the last single 1up – after having been somewhat on their heels throughout the match – here lies a big comeback for KGK. Then there was really nothing more to play for, but the foursome did not want to lose, and ended with a draw. All in all 5.5-1.5 in the first match.
In the final, Korsør awaited. The very same team that KGK defeated in the 2024 final – even on Korsør's home field. It must be thought that Korsør was hungry for revenge. KGK chose to change the team line-up in two places and ended up eliminating Korsør 7-0. The figures in the internal matches were fairly safe victories of 3&2 in both singles and 2&1 in the foursome. It is evidence of some breadth that KGK can replace 50% of the team and still manage to win the final. And it is precisely that breadth that has been crucial throughout the season. Hats off to them. Big congratulations to the Boys on the extremely well-deserved gold medals, considering the results and breadth throughout the season!
In the semifinals, the girls met their arch-rivals from Furesø, who have won many internal matches in recent years. Due to injuries and travel, reinforcements were brought in for the squad and a new plan was made. It was close, really close. The first single won on the last green 1-up. The second single went to Furesø in exactly the same way – 1-up. It goes without saying that a stroke in one of the first singles had made the outcome somewhat different. But then it was up to the foursome. The foursome quickly got 3-up after three holes via sharp drives and approach shots. After a little exchange of holes, a short process was made with a victory of 4&2.
In the final, the girls faced four long-hitting youngsters from Brøndby. There was no reason – nor was there any possibility – to change the team line-up. However, the wind had picked up a bit around noon, and the long shots became a bit more uneven – and the girls took advantage of this through precise play from tee to green. Again, the first single narrowly won 1-up on the last hole. The second single made a short process with a significant 4&3, and then the gold medals were effectively already secured. But of course, the girls did not want to be in the shadow of the boys and even drove home a patient 2-0 victory in the foursome. Again 7-0 in the final! No throughout the entire 2025 season managed to win over the girls overall. So it must be fitting that this year gold medals could be won instead of last year's bronze. Huge congratulations to the girls on their absolutely incredible performance!
To summarize, KGK has a finalist from Eastern Denmark in two out of three rounds of the DGU Team Tournament in the National Finals. This is evidence of something of a wave of success that we are riding at PT. We can hardly wait for the national finals and 2026 – what could it be! 😉
