Life at the KGK Old Boys Club in April 2023.

RoyalCopenhagen_04AerialLow08_0614

So we – finally – got started! The postponement of the start of the season by 14 days due to the heavy rain the day before the original Opening Match on March 31st had lured a few more players into the first match of the year, which many believe is the absolute most important of the year – because of the great prize – and the weather was definitely on our side this time – a mild day with absolutely no wind and no rain at all – before we went home!

We are now playing a total of 29 matches this year and a few of them are more important to be involved in than many others:

The first is the match with Hornbæk on Friday, June 9th in KGK.

The next one is the match with the Tuesday Club on Friday, August 11th.

Then comes our contribution to KGK's 125th anniversary on August 18th with music afterwards.

And finally, Open Men's Day, Friday, September 1st

A comment from the chairman:

When the scorecard states a starting time, that is the time you should start and not 5 minutes earlier just because there is no one on the course ahead. This especially applies to starts on holes 18 and 15, as otherwise we risk that we will be crowded together on the course. We have thought about the flow of the game when we make the starting times.

Attached you will find the updated Annual Program as well as our updated rules of the game. The 3rd document deals with the subject GF INSURANCE will talk about in May and finally we're taking another shot at this year's trip to Sweden – 200 kr. + a drink for a lovely golf day in Sweden including lunch, you can't say no to that, can you?

Several people have asked the chairman where he got his long-sleeved shirt with “KGK OLD BOYS” on the neck? – and he can inform you that it was offered to you all in October/November at a price of 599 DKK including embroidery and KGK logo. If anyone would like one of these, please contact Anne-Mette at the office. It is available in 4 colors.

Winter tournament 2222/2023 – winners:

A-row: Michael Laursen, Erik Fabrin (traveling), Jens F. Hansen

B-row: Ulrik Andersen-Alstrup, Poul Hansen, Christian Geisler

Result Opening match 18-hole players:

The first match of the year was very exciting, with 2 teams finishing with 60 points.

We therefore had to decide by counting each team's combined handicap sum and it showed that 2nd place had a total hdc of 100.9 (98 SPH) and the winning team had 100.4 (97 SPH).

Therefore, it was these happy Old Boys who received a refund for their annual membership fee in the Old Boys Club:

Finn B. Allingstrup (new member), Niels Walløe, Michael Elkiær Andersen and the chairman.

Result Opening match 9-hole players:

On the last Friday in April, the 9-hole tournament also started. “A full” 6 players had the courage to play, so we changed the match format from a Team Match to an Individual Match. The winner was Lars Monrad-Gylling, who was happy to get his annual membership back. Congratulations to Lars on the victory – we are looking forward to his handicap soon being so low that he can play 18 holes 🙂

Lars had left when the photographer arrived 🙂 – therefore no winning photo.

Result of the year's first OOM Match on April 28:

Now that we could only lure six 9-hole players out onto the plain last Friday, it was great to see that a full 30 players played the 18 holes – 12 in the A-row and 18 in the B-row.

In the A-ranked team, the following players got their first points in this year's OOM: Michael Gerlif, Finn Allingstrup, Erik Fabrin, Erik Schreiner and Ib Jacobsen

In the B row: Steen Mahneke, Michael Elkiær Andersen, Poul Hansen, Hans Henning Jensen and Niels Walløe.

We are very pleased to announce again that WEALTH MANAGEMENT has committed to once again be the lunch sponsor for the traditional match with the Tuesday Club on August 11. The board would like to thank Henrik Iwersen many times for his support. Henrik's boss Helle Snedker will also play in the match.

Great yearbook but with a small "but".

We think it's a nice Yearbook no. 102 KGK has made with the historical retrospective, but isn't something missing????

The Old Boys Club is not mentioned despite our contribution to the editor about this year's Order Of Merit winners!

You shouldn't miss out on them, so here they are:

OOM A-row: Erik Fabrin

OOM B-row: Poul Hansen

OOM C-row: Theis Jensen

New Member

Christian Strandgaard, 1-1917 is a new member of Old Boys

We warmly welcome Christian.

Birthday:

May

On May 21, member 1-2406 Jørgen Carlsen will celebrate his 80th birthday.

The board sends its greetings on the day.

Next month we will start with a cancellation, as Great Prayer Day (the last of its kind, falls on Friday, May 5th)

The following week we will hold the 2nd part of the Tee Championship, where we will play from Tee 57.

First digital score registration in Old Boys on May 19. DGU has introduced digital membership cards, so we must admit that digital score registration is just around the corner and will be the way it will be in the very near future. You can register your score in 2 ways – the simple one and the slightly more advanced one. We suggest here at the beginning that we use the simple way. We will release a short video the Friday before so that everyone can learn how to register the score on May 19.

We celebrate technological advancements by welcoming a sponsor:

GF INSURANCE is a new sponsor

GF INSURANCE is a sponsor

Friday, May 19th is GF INSURANCE prize sponsor in all 3 rows!

They will give a very short presentation during lunch, so we will ask the 9-hole players to wait for the 18-hole players to arrive.

Their representative Henrik Bech will play in today's match in football with the chairman.

The month ends with a one-off Modified Stroke Play with a Running Start on May 26th.

Play well!

Kind regards

The Board of Directors of Old Boys
