Life at the KGK Old Boys Club in September 2023.

The course Oct 2023

Another busy month has passed and another busy closing month is ahead of us. It has gone by so quickly – we feel like we have just started the season 🙂

Next month has more exciting matches and the decision in this year's OOM – and then this year's Old Boys Golf Trip in between.

We hope you will enjoy the last matches and we on the board are very much looking forward to meeting at this year's general meeting on the last Friday in October (see notice further down in the email).

Results matches in September:

September 1 – Open Men's Day

Registrations for this year's Open Men's Day were a bit slow and ended up with 68 players. The chairman had the day off and was therefore not registered for the match. Instead, he was happy that Live Scoring meant that he could follow the current positions in all 3 rows from home all day long - while he watched golf on TV 🙂 That Live Scoring can do something 🙂

It was pleasing that many Old Boys participated in the award ceremony 😊

Old Boys results from the day:

A-league: No Old Boys among the first

B-series: Arve Sund wins with 37 points ahead of Erik Fabrin and Bjørn Eliasen. There were 10 Old Boys among the first 15.

C-series: Poul Birch was tied for first place with 37 points, but had a higher handicap than the other participant from The Scandinavian, who won the series. Ulrik The Eagle Andersen-Alstrup was third.

Congratulations to all winners!

Thanks to American Wine by Frederik Suhr (yes – that's the son) for the prize sponsorship!

September 8 – Tee Championship Division 4 from Tee 49

We are approaching the decision of this year's Tee Championship and we have a very exciting end again this year. Who will win will only be decided after the match next month, it is that close!

The chairman was very unhappy that some people spent WAY too long looking for balls. We have a drop rule E5 on all holes, so as not to slow down the game – use it – and don't piss off your Old Boys friends who go after your flight. Mikael Thorsen used E5 a full 4 times during his round – and there was one flight in particular that didn't use it at all or only when they saw that the flight behind them was ready on the Tee after much more than 3 minutes of searching – that's too bad. We will keep an eye on them.

The chairman spent 4 hours and 27 minutes on 18 holes – from TEE 49! No other round this year has taken nearly as long! You simply cannot know that. If we hadn't used Live Scoring on the phone, 2-3 teams would have been disqualified for not submitting scorecards on time!

Today's winners were:

18-holes: Bjørn Eliasen with 38 points ahead of Ulrik The Eagle Andersen-Alstrup also with 38 points and with Michael Gerlif in 3rd place with 35, same as Erling Kjølhede in 4th place.

9-hole: Torben Hagfelt with 16 points ahead of Christian Ravn with 15 and Erik Hamre also with 15 points. The 9-hole players received wine prizes despite the fact that we had a prize sponsor – but the prize from the sponsor went to the Old Boys Club and will be raffled off at this year's general meeting.

(Today's sponsor) – Thanks to PJC Sport (XXiO, Cleveland and Srixon) for the prizes

15 September – this year's excursion to Lund's Akademiska Golf Club

15 old boys had chosen to spend the day in Sweden and we had a wonderful day in Kungsmarken in beautiful sunny weather.

The result of the match was that Ditlev Bondesen won with 38 points ahead of Formanden with 34 and Michael Laursen with 33 points. After that, 3 players followed, all with 32 points.

September 22 – 4-7-9 x 3

This month's clap prize match was played in dry weather, even though it was raining just as we were about to leave. Despite playing from tees 57 and 52, no one ran into any time problems like when we played the match 14 days earlier from tee 49 – thought-provoking! We had closed the result of the match so that you couldn't see the score after the 15th hole played. That makes it a little more exciting and it will continue in the future. Today's result was:

A-rank: Erik Fabrin won with 33 points ahead of Michael Laursen and Ib Jacobsen with 31. The wine was won by: Jens Frederik Hansen, Ulrik The Eagle Andersen-Alstrup (who donated the prize to the club fund) and Mikael Randel.

B-row: Steen Mahneke won with 31 points ahead of Carsten Buhl Trosborg and Christian Geisler with 28 points. Wine was won by: Ditlev Bondesen and Poul Hansen.

C-row: Erik Hamre won with 19 points ahead of Anders Scheuer Nielsen with 16 and Niels Jørgen Jæger with 13 points. Wine was won by: Henrik Pedersen, Christian Ravn and Torben Haghfelt. Torben also chose to donate his prize to the club treasury.

September 29 – Old Boys Ryder Cup

With the real Ryder Cup taking place in Rome this weekend, we of course also had to take a look at the Ryder Cup format.

It was a different match and it took 5+ hours to complete – but there were also 4 players on each team. Again there were players who did not comply with the rule of max leading in the rough for 3 minutes. That is too bad! It affects other Old Boys who play behind them. The chairman had written to everyone how the match should be completed and still there were some who were not completely on board with it – but everyone came in and was handed scorecards.

Unfortunately, there were fewer than eight 9-hole players registered, so their Ryder Cup match had to be cancelled. Instead, they played a normal round from tee 49.

Winner of the 18-hole series was: Erik Fabrin with 26 points ahead of Hans Henrik Leschly also with 26 points and with Mikael Randel in 3rd place with 25 points.

Winner of 9-hole series was: Søren Juhl Hansen with 14 points ahead of Theis Jensen also with 14 and Erik Hamre with 12 points.

We are now 109 members 😊

Every new member we get for the rest of the season means we get a new membership record!

On Wednesday, August 30th, we were able to welcome member no. 109 to our club.

1-2207 Mr. Poul Vesterhouen, who will be turning 70 soon, is a new member of Old Boys.

To Poul: We are all looking forward to playing with you!

Birthdays in October

Poul Vesterhouen turns 70 on October 9th

Otto Nyborg turns 80 on October 20th

We send a greeting on the day.

Old Boys Trip to Spain & a donation

Next week, 16 eager Old Boys players will head to Northern Spain for this year's golf trip.

Unfortunately, Hans Jørgen Nyegaard had to cancel the trip. Hans Jørgen is very sorry that he cannot join us and sends his best regards to everyone.

As a band-aid, Hans Jørgen has provided the chairman with an amount of money to be used to help buy a drink at the bar for everyone.

We thank Hans Jørgen many times for the donation and send many thoughts and wishes for a speedy return to the Old Boys Friday golf.

OOM Position

With only 2 counting matches left this year, the standings are that these 3 players are highest placed in each row – mentioned in random order:

A: Jacobsen, Fabrin, Gerlif

B: Kersi, Mahneke, Bondesen

C: Henrik P, Hamre, Scheuer Nielsen

Team Championship

On the weekend of September 16-17, KGK hosted the Elite Division playoff and the editorial team thought it was worth sending a reporter to the club when many of Denmark's best players were participating. He didn't meet many KGK members – very surprising.

It was an experience to watch how the country's best elite players play and especially how young most of them were. The most well-known were probably John Axelsen and Nanna Koerstz Madsen, who, as you know, plays on the LPGA Tour in the USA and is Denmark's first ever winner on this Tour. She was called up on Sunday afternoon to help Smørum's Ladies Team win. Your correspondent got a "hello" when he got a close-up picture of Nanna.

She had brought her bag from the USA, with 'Boca West Country Club' on it, which her caddie steered safely around the course. The ladies play from Tee 52.

Nanna played against a young lady from Hillerød and after 3 holes they were 'all square' when your delegate had to go home and make his report.

Smørum ended up winning the match by a landslide. Smørum won in all 3 divisions: Women, Men and Youth.

Winter tournament?

Again this year we are holding a Winter Tournament similar to previous years, however we have dropped the C-series and this is solely due to the fact that out of last year's 10 matches only one match settled in the C-row.

It is a prerequisite to participate that you can play every day of the week.

You must register again via GolfBox no later than November 6. Payment of the Match Fee will continue to be made via MobilePay to the chairman at 21644616 – just provide your membership number – it costs 50 DKK and the amount goes to prizes in its entirety. Your participation is only confirmed when you have registered + paid the match fee. The First-come, First-served principle applies and you can register by using these links:

In the event of a tie, the lowest overall handicap is weighted.
