The junior boys' team has now been in the final action in the team tournament for U16A East. Before the summer break, the boys' team effectively put an end to the spring season/qualification by beating the other top team, Asserbo, in a quality match away from home. When Asserbo even stumbled in their penultimate pool match, it ended with a convincing pool win for the boys. Therefore, on August 29, in +30 degrees, the trip went to a neutral court in Greve to play a play-off match against Hjortespring for qualification to the regional final in Korsør on September 22. It was a nerve-wracking day for KGK's players! The breadth of the team has made the difference in KGK's favor throughout the spring, and it was again today. KGK finally won a close match 5-2 after a single went their way. The foursome match was a back-and-forth affair. But a near hole-in-one from KGK (2 cm) and a little blunder by the opponent meant a victory on the last hole in the foursome for KGK.
The boys have generally found the decisive shots at the right and important times. Strong in the memory is an eagle on the last hole from about 70m to hammer the last nail in the coffin in a home match against Hillerød, where exactly that was needed to win. So the quality has been very high! Thus, the boys deservedly qualified - if the match program is to be believed - to meet KGK's girls' team in the regional semi-final on Korsør's lovely course. That means out of 27 competing teams in the East, two out of four teams from KGK are in the regional finals - pretty well done in our opinion! That's both good and bad. Good, because a KGK team is guaranteed in the regional final itself and thus "metal" for KGK. Bad, because our two teams do not meet each other in the regional final itself. The team captains also have gray hairs on their heads, because teams have to be selected for both the semi-finals and the final/3rd place match, but there are so many deserving and talented players available. Luxury problems are also problems. However, the trenches have started to be dug for the genders' internal KGK match 😉
