Back in May, the first two rounds of the Danish tournament were held and KGK achieved several good results.
Not least our women's team and our junior team (2nd team in the men's division). These two teams cleaned up the table and won both of their matches, so they are in a strong position for the upcoming match weekend on June 15th and 16th.
Overall, the results for the weekend in May looked like this (the KGK score is mentioned first in all results):
- Women's team · 2nd division west
- Away against Esbjerg 6-3
- Away against Vejle 7-2
- Men's 1st team · 3rd division east
- Out towards Mølleåen 10-2
- Home against CGC 4-10
- Men's 2nd team (juniors) · qualifying round east
- Away against Ishøj 7-5
- Away against Skovbo 8-4
- Men's 3rd team · qualifying round east
- Home against Værebro 10-2
- Out towards Harekær 2-10
- Senior 1st Team · 2nd Division East
- Away against Dragør 7-7
- Home vs. CGC 10-4
- Senior 2nd Team · Qualification Series East
- Home against The Scandinavian 0-14
- Home against Fredensborg 6-8
- The veteran team · 1st division east
- Home against Simons 5-9
- Home against Søllerød 9-5
- The Super Veteran Team · 1st Division East · defending Danish champions
- Home against Helsingør 12-2
- Away against Sorø 6-8
Our defending Danish champions in the Super Veteran Series are clearly looking to defend the title, and the team captain states that, like last year, they "just" have to win the last 4 matches. Good luck from all of us in Team KGK.
Our talented women's team that represents us in Jutland/Funen is doing great, as written, and their team captain has even sent us a little report from their trip to Esbjerg/Vejle as inspiration for all of us KGK members:
The women's team in Jutland (remember the report is from the first weekend in May - hence hail, sleet and storm)
It was with apprehension that we looked out of the car windows on our way across Funen in our tour bus. The wind was blowing like a pelican, it was freezing cold and then it was hailing in torrents. And in that weather we might have to play golf the next day against Esbjerg GK and on Sunday, if the weather didn't improve, against Vejle GK.
At 7:00 PM we arrived at Esbjerg GK. Hunger had consumed our stomachs, and we expected some indifferent Danish provincial food to bother our empty stomachs with. But……
The menu was different than we had imagined. No minced beef with soft onions, nor medister sausage with red cabbage or fried pork with parsley sauce, no... the menus on the menu were exotic, including Vietnamese classics.
It was a sublime gastronomic experience we had the pleasure of.
The next day the weather had changed from dung to not a cloud in the sky, although still extremely windy and not above 6 degrees.
The girls' spirits were high at 7:00 a.m. on the range, they were looking forward to getting started.
I had brought 5 young ladies with me to the mainland. Julia Talvela, who is new to the club and who could eventually become one of the team's trump cards, Katrine Roepstorff, Eva Fabricius-Bjerre, Marie-Louise Pind and Tina Havmøller.
The course was absolutely sharp and the greens were fantastic. The design of the course is worthy of a championship course. With such a starting point, it can only be a good day, I thought. And my girls did not disappoint me. They took advantage of the good opportunities to deliver super entertaining golf at a high level. Following the whole team was a pleasure.
And we were the best J. We won the singles 6/4, 5/3, 4/2 and only lost the foursome on the 18th hole with a putt close to the edge of the hole.
And then the tour bus drove towards Vejle.
First stop on the way to our hotel was Fjorden Hus. An architectural gem 10 meters out in Vejle harbor. We were all amazed, and not even a busy parking attendant could ruin our excitement.
Sunday morning at 7:30 we were on the range at Vejle Golf Club ready to play.
Although the course was not at quite as high a level as Esbjerg's, it was still a course in fantastic condition.
The 3 singles from KGK were played by Julia, Karin Jurgensen who had replaced Marie-Louise and Katrine. The duet was composed of Eva and Tina.
It was a tough game from the start, because Esbjerg had a team that was at least as strong as us. There was no giving up, even small putts had to be in the cup. But the intensity was incredible, the girls enjoyed themselves with their hosts – and everyone delivered from the top shelf. It's incredible what these golfers can do with the ball – and it looks so easy.
It was really exciting to follow the teams. 2 matches were only won in 18 holes! But overall we were better than Vejle on the day. One single lost with the result 3/1, 2 singles won 1/0, 1/0 and the foursome also won with 4/3. The overall victory of 7-2 was more than acceptable J.
It was a lovely weekend to be the team captain of the club's best women's team, and the weather was still blue skies and cold winds from the north when we drove home.
Thanks to those ladies.
Jan Fabricius-Bjerre
