We have been playing golf at full throttle for many weeks since the lockdown and now the greens need some “air”. The greens are still fast and lovely, but are gradually getting thinner and harder. They need to last the whole season so they will get some loving care in the week starting Monday 22nd June.
The fairways have now become so dense that we have started brushing them regularly. Grass tends to settle down and long seed stands are also difficult for the mowers to reach. The brush raises the grass and we achieve a nicer cut. All of this helps the quality of the playing surface and the visual appearance.
The par 3 course's renovated tees have been put into use. They have become larger and smoother. Attentive golfers will also notice that a number of colored plastic brooms have been placed in the ground on the large driving green. The brooms are part of a research project in which the club's greenkeepers are participating, investigating whether frequent tumbling helps against fungal diseases.
The water fountain behind the bench at the 10th hole tees has been reopened for free use.
Major maintenance work on the pitch that disrupts the game:
Week 25: Establishment of irrigation system on 8 greens is completed. The flag will be on the fore green on Monday and Wednesday during working hours
Week 26: Work on the greens. There is fertilizing and top dressing.
Week 27: Bunkers. Edges are cut and sand is filled/moved around.
Enjoy!
