Dear Old Boys,
So we started this year's season.
We are a little sad that we constantly point out that there are people who play too slowly – much too slowly – but there are and here is the proof: In the Opening Match there was more than 1 hour between the 6 fastest balls and the 4 slowest – and we use Gunstart so that we can have lunch together. It is ruined by the members who go and play much too slowly! 12 holes in 4 hours – that does not belong anywhere!
If you start on hole 15, it takes a maximum of 1 hour to play holes 15, 16, 17, 18 and another hour to play holes 1, 2, 3, 4 and then you have 1 hour for holes 5, 6, 7, 8 – so how you can spend 4 hours is incomprehensible to us?!
The advantage of Team play is that it goes quickly and that you pick up the pace if you can see that you can't beat the score that has already been made on each hole. Imagine if we had played 18 holes, but we will probably do that next time and with a time limit of 4.5 hours, people will probably have to "scratch their nails" and get around quickly. We got some tips about who was the cause of the slow play and we thank you for that.
We have gained many new members this year and we are of course very happy about that. To our new members we can inform that no one on the Old Boys Board has access to GolfBox and we therefore cannot change anything. Should you be forced to cancel after the Start List has been sent out, you must contact the Office in KGK – they are the only ones who can go into GolfBox and change anything.
This year, the board has not done a Gift Card Match, like in previous years - but we will try to find a day when the wines are replaced with a gift card instead.
Opening match 2024 on May 3 for 9-hole players
We hope that many players will come this day so that we can hold a Team Match just like with the 18 holes.
We have adjusted the game format a bit.
You register in GolfBox during the Club Tournament – no later than Wednesday, May 1st at 10:00 AM.
Game format with a minimum of 15 players:
It is used not electronic score recording.
Teams are formed of 3 players and 9 holes are played.
On the course's Holes 1-3 – it is the best score per hole that counts
On the course's Holes 4-6 – the 2 best scores per hole count.
On the course's Holes 7-9 – it is the 3 players' scores per hole that count
The team captain collects the scorecard from the Office before the match and keeps it for the team – and returns it to the Office after the match.
Winning team receives a year's worth of prizes
Game format for under 15 players:
Electronic score recording is used.
An individual Stableford match will be played on holes 1-9.
An annual quota of prizes is given for every 5th player = with 14 participants, there is a prize for number 1+2.
Players who participated in the 18-hole Opening Match on April 5th cannot participate in the match on May 3rd.
Old Boys offers 2 sandwiches per player, drinks are at your own expense.
Results in April:
April 5 – Opening matchThe lucky/talented winners of an Annual Quota were: Finn Krog, Poul Hansen, Freddy Lassen (participating for the first time) and Arve Sund.

The happy winners 😊
April 12th – 1st division of this year's Tee Championship from Tee 61 was won in superb style by Mikael Randel with 40 points ahead of Michael Laursen with 35 and Ulrik The Eagle Andersen-Alstrup with 34 points. There were great scores despite the weather, which initially offered gray weather, strong winds from the southwest plus two rain showers.
April 19th – Stableford – the first OOM Match of the year was held on a day when it rained almost all the way around. In the B-row, all 14 registered players played, whereas it was really tough in the A-row, where there were both cancellations and a few players joining along the way. It is incredibly bad style and not in the spirit of the Old Boys Club – not completing a round when you are otherwise fresh enough to sit in the restaurant and have lunch afterwards! The winner in the A-row was Nils Juhl Andreasen with 37 points ahead of Ib Jacobsen with 32 and Mikael Randel with 30 points. The B-row was won by Poul Hansen with 30 points ahead of 4 players all with 27 points. No. 2 was Mikael Thorsen and no. 3 was Jens Taarnhøj. Unfortunately, there was a bit of trouble with the phones, which is certainly due to the poor network connections in Dyrehaven. The match director therefore decided that in the coming period we will play without a marker in the matches. The club's new director is aware of the problem and will try to do something to rectify it in the near future.
April 26 – Modified Stroke Play – The day was historic, as it was the first time in our lifetime that we could play Old Boys golf on Store Bededag. In previous years this has not been possible, but our pressure on the current Government last year was instrumental in the fact that the holiday was abolished. Unfortunately, there were quite a few dropouts for the two matches that were played. Whether it was due to the Sund Invitational, which was played the day before or the weather forecast – we do not know, but the match was won by Ulrik The Eagle Andersen-Alstrup with a net score of 75 ahead of Jens Frederik Hansen with 76 and Michael Gerlif with 77. Unfortunately, there were only 5 players in the A-row who completed! The B-row was won by Jens Taarnhøj with a net 75 ahead of Ditlev Bondesen with 79 and Lars Høhne with 80. All players in the B-row completed the round.
Winter tournament – final result
The A-series was won by 1-2589 Michael Laursen with 12 points ahead of 1-2738 Michael Gerlif with 11 points. In 3rd place we had 3 players with 10 points, so mutual matches decided that Finn Allingstrup 1-3221 was no. 3 ahead of Nils Juhl Andreasen and Jens Frederik Hansen.
The B-series was again a bit chaotic this year. The winner ended up being 1-2708 Michael Elkiær Andersen with 11 points ahead of 1-912 Christian Geisler also with 11 points but the match between them was won by Michael. In 3rd place came 1-2370 Poul Hansen.
Friendly match with Hornbæk in Hornbæk June 7th
This year it is our turn to play on the away field in Hornbæk and we encourage as many people as possible to register so that we can field the best team + the chairman 😊
If you don't make it to the team, you will of course get your payment back. Register here via this link: https://tourentry.golfbox.dk/?cid=4452497
Unfortunately, you cannot pay green fee + lunch when registering, as the match is played away from home. Instead, you must pay 480 DKK via MobilePay to the chairman at 2164 4616 – just write your KGK membership number on the payment.
New members – no. 111 + 112 + 113
Just as the Monthly News for March was being sent out, we received a registration from 1-977 Lars Winther Larsen, whom we warmly welcome.
A few days before the start of the season, the chairman met member 1-2849 Jørgen Friis, whom the chairman knows from Introgolf. Jørgen wanted to be member number 112, so he became member.
Jørgen will start by playing only 9 holes. We also warmly welcome Jørgen!
The day after the Opening Match, Erik Johannsen 1-1197 signed up for the 1st division of the Tee Championship before contacting the chairman about membership. Erik paid immediately and was immediately accepted as member number 113 and the 15th new member this year! We warmly welcome Erik!
Sold out
The golf trip to Mallorca is sold out (19 participants) – as is the trip to Sweden in August (20 participants). If you would have liked to have been to one or both places, please contact the chairman to be put on the waiting list.
Slow play – tips for improvement.
As most people in Old Boys know, we focus on playing too slowly – and we are not alone in that.
In Introgolf there was a meeting with all mentors earlier this month, where head coach Klas also focused on playing too slowly and even the KGK board wants to play faster. Klas showed a video clip that he had recorded on his golf trip to Cadiz in March, where you could see 3 gentlemen spending just over 4 minutes driving out to a hole. From a distance it actually looked like 3 members of the Old Boys, but this was not finally confirmed 🙂 – but 4 minutes to play 3 strokes is shockingly long and if it happens on every hole, then there is nothing to say that some people experience problems playing 12 holes in 3 hours and 18 holes in under 4.5 hours.
One rule that Intro golfers learn is that you NEVER go back to your cart/bag when you have finished putting – of course it is placed towards the next tee before putting. We can also learn to do this in Old Boys.
Our transition to Live Scoring on the phone is another initiative that makes it faster.
Birthdays

We don't have any birthdays in May - but we do have 5 in June 🙂
Profile of the Month
This month we have the pleasure of presenting member 1-2496 Arve Sund, who turned 75 yesterday.
The 4 questions:
1: When did you start playing golf – and at which club?
2: What did you do when you were working?
3: When did you become a member of KGK?
4: What is the best thing for you as a member of the Old Boys club?
– My golf started at Passebækgård in Gilleleje. When I was on holiday in Denmark I thought it could be a nice activity. The year was probably 1989. So holiday employment. After a few years I joined Gilleleje Golf Club and used it when we were in Denmark. Much later I joined Golf Lavaux in Switzerland.
– Professionally, I have a career within Hydro, and was involved in the period when Hydro went from being a conglomerate (fertilizer, oil, PVC, salmon farming, etc.) to an aluminum company. In this context, I have had positions within aluminum in Norway, Denmark, the UK, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and the USA.
– I chose to retire in 2014, and we chose to move from Switzerland to Charlottenlund in 2015. I became a member of KGK in 2017.
– After a year of membership in both Gilleleje and Copenhagen, I chose to focus on KGK.
I feel good here. Socially, a fantastic club, in a nature that is its own. There are many fantastic golf clubs, but KGK is different.
It's no secret that I spend many hours at the club. I feel at home.
Month of May:
Opening match for the 9 holes.
We will also be holding the 2nd division of the Tee Championship, this time from Tee 57.
Then we have 2 x regular Stableford OOM Matches and finally we end the month with Modified Stroke Play + 4-7-9 in all 3 rows with Running Start from Hole 1. For information for new members, we can inform you that 4-7-9 means that there is a prize for number 4-7-9 in each row. These matches replace the fact that we do not use applause prizes in Old Boys after each match. The winners these days have to settle for 6 points in OOM (Order Of Merit).
Quote of the month
“Remember sunscreen – even on your ears!”

Kind regards
The Board of Directors of Old Boys
