Elite Ladies Danish Tournament 5.5 & 6.5.

Driving range

2nd division women's east, pool 2 – Værløse vs KGK

At 7:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, the women's team met at Værløse Golf Club. The team consisted of Marie-Louise Pind, Karin Jürgensen, Tina Havmøller, Anna Eriksen and Elisabeth Sørensen.

In the beautiful weather – sun from a cloudless sky and a temperature that reached 23 degrees – the club's best ladies were to play against Værløse's ditto.

We were guests on a very well-maintained course in slightly hilly terrain, with hilly and relatively small greens and with water on many of the holes.

It turned out that it was on the greens that the matches were generally decided. The sloping and or hilly greens gave a big home advantage to the players who have their "daily walk" on this course.

Marie-Louise and Anna won their foursome safely 2-0 without any problems along the way. It was the first time the two players played foursome together, but certainly not the last. The chemistry between them was great, and they complemented each other in the best way. The 1st single, played by Karin, was the most intense, exciting and even match of the day. If Karin could have putted 1 cm further on hole 17, her ball would have gone into the cup and would have tied the match before the last hole was played. But unfortunately that was not the case. Karin tried to get a draw on the 18th hole, but in vain. 2-0 in favor of Værløse was the final score in this duel.

Tina, who played 2nd singles, faced an opponent who had a hot putter that day and who managed to win the match on the green. Quite frankly, Tina was the best from tee to green, but when you face an opponent who puts all balls in the cup within 2 meters, it is a difficult match to win, and Tina had to admit defeat at 5-3.

Elisabeth, a fierce long-hitting junior with great potential, was assigned to the 3rd singles, facing a player with half her handicap. The Værløse player thought it was a matter of urgency to beat Elisabet, but the score was decided without a host. Elisabeth did not let herself be cowed, played her best and pressured her opponent everywhere on the course. But the superiority of the Værløse player was great, so on the 16th hole the Værløse player closed the match with the result 3-2.

You can never be satisfied with a losing result, but the ladies played solidly and there was not as much difference between the two teams as the result might indicate.

2nd division women's east, pool 2 – Ledreborg against KGK

The 10:20 a.m. start time at Ledreborg Golf Club was pure luxury. And the weather was still brilliant, so the ladies arrived in good spirits and ready to take revenge for the somewhat disappointing defeat on Saturday against Værløse.

Ledreborg is a course where there are oceans of space and distance between the holes, so the ladies had a bit of a stroll.

The foursome was, as on Saturday, awarded to Marie-Louise Pind and Anna Eriksen. Once again they delivered with a comfortable 4-3 victory.

Karin Jurgensen was busy with work, so the first single was played by Tina Havmøller. And it was a real thrill – and super entertaining to watch.

When Tina teeed off on the 18th hole, a par 5 hole, she was one up. After Tina's 3 strokes on this hole, her ball was over the cup for a difficult putt, while the Ledreborg player had a putt uphill the same length as Tina's, but easier to execute. With a feel for the ball, Tina made her ball stop 5 cm from the hole and got her par, but her opponent had to 3-putt. The victory was thus 2-0 for Tina.

Louise Helmbæk played 2nd singles and fought her best, but Tanja Lewis from Ledreborg is an experienced tournament player and made no mistakes on the day. Louise therefore had to bow her neck and accept her defeat at 4-3.

The 3rd single was again played by our junior player Elisabeth Sørensen, and she is getting better and better. Elisabeth loses 2-0, but was up several times in the match.

As team captain, I was very satisfied with the great effort all the players delivered – and of course happy for a well-deserved victory.

And last but not least, a big thank you to those who caddied on Saturday as well as Sunday, the effort is appreciated.

Jan Fabricius-Bjerre, team captain
