Life at the KGK Old Boys Club in August 2023.

15 green Aug 2023

A very busy month is coming to an end and a new busy month of September is on the way.

We can be extremely satisfied with the activities we carried out in August and we hope next month will be just as successful.

We have no birthdays to celebrate in September, so it's not a mistake that there is no flag in this information 🙂

PS! This Monthly News is best read on a full screen.

New member

On Wednesday, August 2, what the chairman had dreamed of happened: We were able to welcome a new member, the 15th new member of the year and a new record with now 108 members! We have never had more under the current management. We therefore warmly welcome KGK member 1-286 Mr. Bjørn Eliasen to our club in the club. Thanks to Arve Sund and Erik Fabrin, who convinced Bjørn that he should be a member 🙂

Results August 4

This Friday was historic in a way. Never before have we played 3 matches without the Office being involved – except for the fact that they helped a flight enter scores into the system because one of the players had gone in after the 5th hole. Otherwise, we were not in the office before the match or afterwards – and we could see the results on our phones. The Office has achieved what they wanted – to reduce the workload on Fridays when we played our matches 😊

After the matches, however, the service from the restaurant did not work – several people had to wait up to 30 minutes for their 2 sandwiches – and we have a joint Gunstart so that we can have lunch together. The chairman therefore set about working with director Christian and Flemming in the restaurant to find a new way to handle our future lunches. The solution was that before we go out on Friday morning, we all drop by the office and cross off an order list of what we want to eat for lunch. The restaurant then makes sure that everything is ready when we come in. It was tested for the first time on August 25th and it seems to work.

Today's winners were:

A-rank: Jørgen Ib Hansen with 37 points ahead of Poul Birch with 36 and Finn Allingstrup with 32 points

B-row: Kersi Porbunderwalla with 37 points ahead of Poul Hansen with 35 and Steen Mahneke with 31 points

C-row: Michael Elkiær Andersen with 19 points ahead of Anders Scheuer Nielsen with 17 and Michael Ankjær with 16 points

Result August 11th – Tuesday Club/Old Boys Greensome Match

The day before, we had already reached the maximum number of participants for 18 holes – 22 ladies and 22 gentlemen – which is why we closed further registrations on Tuesday morning.

The chairman has received many positive comments from the participants in this year's Greensome Match with the ladies and we are super happy about that. Everything also went according to plan, although it would have been nice to have the usual "kissing girl" to help - and then a little more sunshine 🙂

Winners were:

18-holes: Eva Stack/Ulrik The Eagle Andersen-Alstrup with 37 points ahead of Udsen/Jørgen Ib also with 37 points and Halken/Fabrin with 36 points

9-holes: Bjerg-Pedersen/Søren Juhl Hansen won with 23 points ahead of Lundqvist/Lars Monrad-Gylling with 18 and Helle Snedker/Erik Hamre also with 18 points. Helle is the head of Formuepleje in Copenhagen and thus sponsors the match together with Henrik Iwersen, who is also a member of the Old Boys Club – Henrik can be seen in the picture with Hans Ulrik Paulsen.

Photos from the day:

THANK YOU to this year's sponsors: WEALTH MANAGEMENT and Rosé, Wine & Bubbles for the support for this year's match with the Tuesday Club.

– did we mention that we had Live Scoring? Something the ladies haven't tried before – but the feedback we received was all positive 😊

Result August 18th – Old Boys' contribution to KGK's 125th Anniversary

Our match had already been fully booked in the 18-hole series 2 weeks before and on August 9th, KGK's Tournament Management decided that there were not enough registrations for the Ryder Cup Match in the afternoon, which is why everyone registered for this cancelled match was invited to our match and this resulted in us ending up with 64 players for 18 holes and 28 for 9 holes - a total of 92 players, and that must be said to be quite impressive.

The result was the following:

Hanne Bjerregaard/Michael Gerlif won the 18-hole tournament ahead of Jørgen Ib Hansen/Lars Henrichsen and with Erik Schreiner/Christian Ehlers in 3rd place.

9-holes were won by Annette Fabrin/John Kjær ahead of Brit Roust Jæger/Kaj Møller Hansen and with Ulla Junker Nielsen/Theis Jensen in 3rd place

Large CONGRATULATIONS to all winners!

After lunch there was gin & tonic at Holger Frederiksen at Ordrupvej 100 and The Flying Moments played – and many of us KGK members enjoyed that!

Here are some photos from the day – unfortunately the photographer only had time to take photos in the late afternoon, when many had gone home – sorry 🙁

The drink vouchers were only a partial success. We had set aside 5,000 DKK for the purpose and we handed out drink vouchers to 32 Old Boys – but when we settled with the restaurant they had only received vouchers from 27 members.

A big THANK YOU goes out to Carsten Lundqvist from Holger Frederiksen, Ordrupvej 100 for the lovely Gin&Tonic tasting and the very nice prizes in the match. There were 3 prizes for the 9-holes and 5 for the 18-holes.

Subsequently, we have received many positive comments from participants – and we are of course very happy about that.

August 25

Maybe the last Running Start ever in Old Boys? – and then on a day when the chairman had the day off – and on top of that a 4-7-9 Match, the chairman's favorite match 🙂

We had sandwiches ordered before the match for the first time..

The results of today's matches were:

A-row: Poul Birch won ahead of Erik Fabrin and with Michael Laursen in 3rd place. Wines were won by Michael Elkiær Andersen, Erik Schreiner and Mikael Randel.

B-row: Henning Jensen won ahead of Erling Kjølhede and with Kersi in 3rd place. Wines were won by Christian Geisler, Poul Hansen and Steen Mahneke.

C-row: The sow Juhl Hansen won ahead of Anders Scheuer and with Niels Jørgen Jæger in 3rd place. Wine was won by Erik Hamre.

The trip to Lund

This year's excursion is now sold out and we will have 16 participants.

Old Boys Golf Trip to Spain – still 2 places available

The golf trip was sold out, but on August 19th we received a cancellation. We can therefore once again offer interested members a place on the trip.

Greetings from Niels Kofoed

"I have been blessed with a new hip and hope to be fit for a fight again soon.

Say hello to the oldboys"

September

Next month offers several exciting matches, starting with KGK Open Men's Day on September 1st, where 9-holes are cancelled, then the 4th division of this year's Tee Championship from Tee 49. On September 15th we are on an excursion to Lunds Akademiska Golfklubb in Sweden - the 9-holes are also cancelled on this day. On September 22nd we will play 4-7-9 in all 3 rows and we will end the month with an Old Boys Ryder Cup - Foursome/Four-Ball/Singles.

Old Boys 2023 Ryder Cup – 18 holes

This day we will play with Running Start from Hole 1 and the first 12 holes of the round will be played as team play with 2 players on each team. The last 6 holes are singles.

We all use a paper scorecard.

Holes 1-6 are all played from Tee 57 and 7-18 are played with Full Stableford SPH on the holes from a self-selected Tee location.

Teams are created by GolfBox based on the handicaps of the registered players, where the lowest HDC is paired with the highest HDC.

Because we partly play team games, an even number of participants is required and if we have one too many or one too few, it will affect the last registered person. Cancellations after the Start List has been created may mean that the whole ball cannot be played – or is moved to 9-holes!

Before the round begins, you must print your own scorecard with your choice of tee location., which will apply in the Four-Ball and Single match (holes 7-18).

Game format:

Holes 1-6 are played as Foursome (the same player drives on even holes, the other on odd holes, then they take turns hitting/putting until the ball is in the hole). Holes 1-6 are played from scratch.

4 points are played per hole. The winning team per hole gets 2 points each. If the hole is shared, all players get 1 point each.

Holes 7-12 are played as Four-Ball (each player plays their own ball until it is holed or no points can be scored on the hole) from the Tee location chosen before the round.

4 points are played per hole. The player who scores the most Stableford points on the hole is the winner of the hole and both players on the team receive 2 points. If the hole is shared, all players receive 1 point each.

Points earned on holes 1-12 are carried over and count towards the Singles match.

Holes 13-18 are played as a Singles match, with each player receiving the number of points shown on their scorecard for each hole based on the Tee location chosen.

In case of equal points – the rule of lowest handicap applies.

Individual winners only – prize for number 1 + 2 + 3.

Old Boys 2023 Ryder Cup – 9-hole

The first 6 holes of the round are played as team play with 2 players on each team. The last 3 holes are singles.

We all use a paper scorecard.

All 9 holes are played from Tee 49 and with Full Stableford SPH on holes 5-9.

Teams are created by GolfBox based on the handicaps of the registered players, where the lowest HDC is paired with the highest HDC.

Because we partly play team games, an even number of participants is required and if we have one too many or one too few, it will affect the last person registered. Cancellations after the start list has been created may mean that the entire team cannot play.

Game format:

Holes 1-4 are played as Foursome (the same player drives on even holes, the other on odd holes, then they take turns hitting/putting until the ball is in the hole). Holes 1-4 are played from scratch.

4 points are played per hole. The winning team per hole gets 2 points each. If the hole is shared, all players get 1 point each.

Holes 5-6 are played as Four-Ball (each player plays their own ball until it is holed or no points can be scored on the hole).

4 points are played per hole. The player who scores the most Stableford points on the hole is the winner of the hole and both players on the team receive 2 points. If the hole is shared, all players receive 1 point each.

Points earned on holes 1-6 are carried over and count towards the Singles match.

Holes 7-9 are played as a Singles match, where each player gets the number of points shown on their scorecard on each hole.

In case of equal points – the rule of lowest handicap applies.

Individual winners only – prize for number 1 + 2 + 3.

Play well!

Kind regards
