We are now 1/3 of the way through the season – 11 of 29 matches have been completed and July is just around the corner. Normally July is a very quiet month and if we get fewer registrations than usual, we will probably run most of them with a running start from hole 1.
We would like to wish everyone a really good summer holiday – if that's something you still have? – and see you in August, when we will have a busy month with both the Tee Championship and the traditional match with the Tuesday Club – this year on August 12. Again this year we have two sponsors for this match: Rosé, Wine & Bubbles by Henrik Sølver and WEALTH MANAGEMENT by Henrik Iwersen.
Gift Card Match on June 3rd
When the deadline for registration had arrived, we found ourselves in a situation where there were 16 registrations in the C-row, 12 in the A-row and 5 in the B-row. Of these, 2 players had registered in both the A- and B-row. It was undeniably difficult to know whether these 2 players wanted to play an indifferent match for nothing (the B-row) or be in a match for a gift card (the A-row)?
The match management therefore decided to move everyone from the B-row to the A-row, so that they were >14 in total and could thus play for 2 x gift cards. The C-row also ended up with 16 players.
The result of the matches was that Niels Walløe won ahead of Michael Gerlif and that Michael MASI Ankjær won in the C-row ahead of Lars Monrad-Gylling.
Today's prize was a gift card to the shop.
Friendly match in Hornbæk on June 10th
It's always a bit of a challenge when we have to have a match with another club – and then in collaboration with the ladies.
We in Old Boys can decide things regarding the match that the ladies don't like and then we end up doing something that the ladies don't do - for example this year, when we - as is tradition - arranged breakfast before the match together with Hornbæk's team - we have had that every time we have played the match - but this year, most surprisingly - the ladies didn't want to be there!
Another challenge is when it comes to team composition. When we reached the deadline for registration, we had 18 men and 13 women. Just after closing time, the women managed to get 1 more woman – so we ended up with 14 women and 18 men. Fortunately, the chairman (or perhaps more correctly in these times: the leader?) had made an agreement with Hornbæk that if we could not field a full team (15 women and 15 men), then we had to supplement with a purely women's or men's team. We ended up with 16 men playing. The last person to register (number 18) got his money back and the second to last agreed to show up as a reserve – a nice gesture – so thanks to Mikael Thorsen 1-3070 for the help!
The day before the match and after the team composition has been made, you sit in suspense all day and cross your fingers that no one suddenly cancels 😊 Fortunately, that didn't happen this year - thank you for that too.
When the day arrived, we ended up with everyone playing, as Hornbæk borrowed our reserve as they had received a cancellation just before the match – so all KGK players got to play.
After a good match, Hornbæk managed to win 12-3 – and they thus got the trophy for the first time – (of course only on loan for 12 months). Congratulations to Hornbæk on the victory and thank you for a great event with breakfast and a lovely lunch. The prize for best KGK team went to Anette Harmsen and Poul Birch – they won 4/2 – big CONGRATULATIONS to them.

Thank you for your efforts to all KGK players – it wasn't your fault that we didn't win! The chairman takes full responsibility, as he had made teams according to how he thought people played best together instead of low/high, where those with the lowest handicap are paired with those with the highest handicap! It must not happen again.
Tee Championship – 3rd division from Tee 52 on June 17th
The day started with a distinguished visit from 3 of our better European Tour players – Søren Kjeldsen, Jeff Winther and Lasse Jensen. They all wanted to be members of the Old Boys – but we felt that we should just take a look at them – and see if they could play the course without constantly smoking in the rough! Joking aside, they probably just wanted to practice on a Links course and had asked KGK if they could have a time – and it was our time of 08:50 that they got.

Today's match ended with the following happy winners: Michael MASI Ankjær with 33 points ahead of Steen Mahneke with 32 points and Niels Siggaard with 29 points.
Here, halfway through this year's Tee Championship, the standings WITHOUT deducting rounds are that Michael MASI Ankjær and Michael Elkiær Andersen have taken the lead with 94 points ahead of Henrik Valdorf with 82 points and the chairman with 80 points.
The 9-holes were won by: Lars Monrad-Gylling (again, again, again) ahead of Theis Jensen and Erik Hamre. Since Lars had won wine twice in a row, the winning wine of the day went on to the next one.
Modified Stroke Play on June 24th
Pyyha – it was a hot round. But with the heat also came the good play and everyone came in almost within the normal time limit. The A-row was won by Michael Laursen with a net score of 76 strokes ahead of Niels Christian Nielsen also with 76 strokes. The B-row was won for once by the chairman also with 76 net strokes – unfortunately there were too few participants for the chairman to receive a bottle of wine for his efforts :-(.
The C-class was won by Finn Skovgård ahead of Søren Juhl Hansen. Christian Ravn took home the applause prize.
No match on Friday, July 1st
As previously announced, the board has chosen to cancel the matches on Friday due to the start of the Tour de France 2022 in Copenhagen. It is – in our opinion – a “once in a lifetime experience” (probably in our lifetime), so it should be experienced up close.
Holiday
The Chairman is going on a short vacation to gather strength for a busy program after August 1, which is why he will be absent on July 8 and 15.
Have a great summer – remember sunscreen – even on your ears!
