Status of registration for the Old Boys' KGK 125th Anniversary Match

We can have a maximum of 48 players, both on 9-holes and 18-holes. Here in week 30, the 18-hole match is almost sold out with only 3 places available – but plenty of places for the 9-holes (30).

Even if you're not playing on Friday, August 18th, come and join in the fun after the match, starting at 3:30 PM, when the music starts playing and there's a putting competition, food trucks, etc.

Drink coupon for the first 50 on August 18th

Between 3:30 PM and 6:00 PM, the chairman will hand out 2 drink vouchers to each participating member of the Old Boys Club. They can be used to buy 2 glasses of wine, for example, so that you can offer your companion a refreshment.

The coupons can only be used in the restaurant and must be used on the day.

We have written to GolfBox

After we have now used Live Scoring for a month and we have gained some experience, the chairman has written to GolfBox about 2 points that we would like to see improved:

1: Can you get a small message when you have entered the score on the last hole of the round – for example, something like: "Thank you – your round has now been registered".

Answer from GolfBox: No, you can't if you use the function where all players can report for everyone in the ball. Then it's not an electronic scorecard, and therefore not something that can/must be approved. It's only for use to show live scoring. If they use the function with marker approval, they will go through the approval procedure.

2: Can you get the players in exactly the same order for all the players in the flight?

An example – with 3 players:

As it is now, player 1 is first on player 1's phone, player 2 is first on player 2's phone, and player 3 is first on player 3's phone.

We would like to change this so that player 1 is first on all 3 players' phones and player 2 is number 2 on all 3 players' phones and finally player 3 is number 3 on all players' phones.

It will make it much less confusing and much easier to record scores after the hole for the 'old boys' in KGK.

Answer from GolfBox: No, it will always be the player who is logged in who will be first on the scorecard, so it will change depending on who is logged in.

Then we became wiser. We subsequently decided to try a round with a fixed marker – you can read how it turned out below under July 21st.

Live Scoring vs. Scorecard

We have now tested Live Scoring on 6 Fridays over the summer and after the match on July 28th we can see that the 9-hole players are big opponents of the system. It is a bit of a shame, because it is the 9-hole players who have been the problem – the office simply cannot read what many of the 9-hole players write on their scorecards. That is why – and only that – we have tested Live Scoring over the summer. On both July 28th and 21st, you had to sign on the phone, but it was not until July 28th that there was a minor uproar over the fact that you now also had to sign (you also do that on an old-fashioned scorecard, so what is the problem??). The other 4 times we have used Live Scoring without a marker, there have been almost no complaints.

We have therefore decided the following in collaboration with the Office:

The 18 holes continue with Live Scoring with marker

The 9-holers are going back to Live Scoring without a marker. Whether the 9-holers keep score after each hole or write their score on an old-fashioned scorecard is irrelevant, as long as they enter their score on their phone after the round – because the Office doesn't do that!

This Friday Anne-Mette had a holiday and director Christian had a day off. Instead, there was a substitute, but it wouldn't have been a problem if everything had been "run by the book", because then the substitute could look after the office and we could play our 3 matches without the office having to do anything other than print the results when everyone had come in. However, it wasn't to be that way - for the 18-hole players, as Christian had made a mistake and forgotten to send out the link to Live Scoring! This caused a lot of frustration from the morning and the substitute's help turned out to be completely wrong.

The 18-hole players had to go out with an ancient and printed scorecard (something that they apparently used once a very long time ago 😊) – while the 9-hole players could register scores via their phones because they had been linked to the start list.. When the 18-hole players came in, the substitute wanted everyone to enter their scores in a link that Christian had sent out while they were playing. It also generated a lot of frustration, so all in all it was a very Unlucky match day we had this Friday. We hope all the fuss doesn't give a wrong view of Live Scoring, as it was only a human error.

Winners were:

A-rank: Ulrik The Eagle Andersen-Alstrup with 34 points ahead of Christian Strandgaard/Michael Gerlif/Jørgen Ib Hansen all with 32 points

B-row: Ditlev Bondesen with 35 points ahead of Steen Mahneke with 32 and Kersi Porbunderwalla with 31 points.

C-row: Finn Skovgård with 20 points ahead of Kennet Madsen/Erik Neubert/Anders Scheuer Nielsen all with 18 points. Kennet's red wine came back in the wine cabinet, as Kennet had left when the prize giving was held.

Every year we discuss whether we should take a break in July because many are on vacation – but this Friday proves that we shouldn't! A total of 28 Old Boys played in the 3 rows.

Winners were:

A-rank: Christian Strandgaard with 33 points ahead of Ib Jacobsen/Jørgen Ib Hansen with 31 points

B-row: Ditlev Bondesen with 36 points ahead of Hans Henrik Leschly with 34 and Poul Hansen with 33 points

C-row: Henrik Pedersen with 17 points ahead of Erik Neubert with 14 points and Erik Hamre.

The first attempt with a fixed marker turned out to be the way we will play the matches in the future. It worked perfectly, as long as you remember to write down the same score and not, for example, "collect" and 8 strokes on a Par-4 hole.

We'll try it again next time before we finally decide how it should be going forward.

The matches produced the following winners:

A-rank: Ib Jacobsen with 37 points ahead of Jørgen Ib Hansen with 36 and Arve Sund with 34.

B-row: The chairman with 39 points (it seems that it hasn't happened since Ruder King was Jack! – that the chairman won) ahead of Kersi Porbunderwalla/Finn Skovgård both with 34 points.

C-row: Erik Neubert with 17 points ahead of Povl Holm with 16 points and a streak of 14 points, where Niels Jørgen Jæger had the lowest handicap.

Results July 28

Modified Stroke Play in all 3 rows with Live Scoring with fixed marker gave the following results:

A-rank: Ib Jacobsen with a net 72 strokes ahead of Michael Gerlif with 73 strokes and Erik Fabrin with 74 strokes

B-row: Kersi Porbunderwalla with a net 76 strokes ahead of Poul Hansen/Lars Høhne with a net 77 strokes

C-row: Søren Juhl Hansen with a net score of 36 strokes ahead of Henrik Pedersen with 40 strokes and Niels Jørgen Jæger with 41 strokes

Welcome back to Finn Krog!

It was great to see Finn back on the course after almost 1.5 years of absence due to illness. Finn started today, July 28th, playing 9 holes. We warmly welcome Finn back!

Lund in September

We have now received a total of 16 registrations for this year's excursion = 4 x 4-balls. If there are more, they will be placed on a waiting list until either 3- or 4-balls can be formed. Registrations will be closed completely as of August 10th.

Spain in October

We still have 1 space available in a single room.

Oldboys-Tuesday Club Greensome

Attached is an invitation to our traditional match with the ladies' club, where we need more registrations in order for the match to be held as normal. It is unusual for a match that is free not to be sold out!

Remember KGK Open Men's Day

Friday, September 1st, our Open Men's Day will be held and we encourage you all to sign up. There will be 3 rounds of play – 2 from tee 57 and 1 from tee 52. 9-holes are cancelled on this day!

Open Men's Day – Asserbo

We have received the attached invitation from Asserbo.

Greetings from Hans Jørgen Nyegaard

Hans Jørgen has been through a long illness and is now getting back on his feet. Hans Jørgen has started playing golf again with his wife and hopes to be back at Old Boys' games on Fridays after the summer.

New member

Just as the June newsletter was sent out, a payment came in from yet another new member, the 14th new member of the year, and we are now back to 107 members, which was the number of members at the end of September last year.

I therefore have the great pleasure of welcoming KGK member 1-3101 Mr. Claus Tage Hansen to our club in the club. Does the name sound familiar? – Then it's because we are talking about father and son 🙂

To Claus: Welcome – we are all looking forward to playing with you.

Birthday:

Christian P. Skjoldborg 85 years old on August 15th

Ditlev Bondesen turns 80 on August 19th

Niels Holst Laursen turns 85 on August 22nd

Kersi Porbunderwalla turns 75 on August 28th

The board sends its greetings on the day.

August

A very busy month offers a bit of everything. We start with a regular Stableford, then the annual Greensome Match with the ladies and the week after our contribution to KGK's 125th anniversary before we round off the month with a Modified Stroke Play with Running Start - perhaps the last of its kind? We have not been able to accommodate the 4th division of the Tee Championship, which will not be held until September.

The chairman has been given the day off on August 25th to play in the Sailing Open in Helsingør.

DK CHAMPIONNAT DU MONDE INTERNATIONAL DE BOULE 2023

As mentioned in June, the chairman was a co-organizer of the highlight of the year in the South of France on July 11, together with Old Boys member 1-1960 (Tommy Thomsen) – here are a few photos from the day 🙂

The tournament is played on the square in the cozy medieval town of Tourrettes-sur-Loup, just northwest of Nice.

The two organizers of the year's winning hole: Ditte flanked by KGK member 1-2970 Michael Bjergby + previously

KGK member 1-2037 Rasmus Thomsen.

Play well – remember sunscreen – also on your ears!

Kind regards
