Dear Old Boys,
We wish you all a wonderful Easter and look forward to the start of this year's season, which is rapidly approaching - this year's season opens for 18-hole players the week after Easter. The 9-hole players will have to wait another month for the weather to get warmer.
Friday, April 5th we start and we hope that you are satisfied with our season plan and that you are also looking forward to many exciting matches?
In connection with lunch on April 5th, the club's new director Henrik Voigt will come and say hello so that we can all get to know him better, and head greenkeeper Martin Nilsson will come and talk about the work on the course.
We have had a rainy winter and we may risk that there will be mat regulations for a longer period in April – but it is perfectly fine for Old Boys if we need to use mats to protect the pitch as much as possible – we are happy to do so.
To ensure that we all play by the same rules, we have attached this year's Game Rules and the Annual Plan.
As is tradition, we will ask you to focus on 2 matches, which we will ensure we field the best players (+chairman :-): The match with Hornbæk in Hornbæk on June 7th and the match with the Tuesday Club on August 9th. So mark your calendar now and inform your family that you are busy with golf on these 2 Fridays 🙂
Really good season 2024!
Opening match 2024 on April 5 for 18-hole players (9-hole players have their own match on May 3)
We start the season by playing a 12-hole Stableford Team Match from Tee 52.
The prize is the best of the season: An annual membership to the Old Boys Club for each player on the winning team worth 300 DKK (it doesn't get any better than that!)
If you participate in this match, you cannot also participate in the 9-hole Opening Match on May 3rd.
You register in GolfBox during the Club Tournament. before Wednesday, April 3rd at 10:00 AM. We will play holes 1-8 +15-18 with a Gunstart at 09:00. Meeting time is 08:30.
The following applies:
On the course's Holes 1-4 – it is the best score per hole that counts
On the course's Holes 5-8 – the 2 best scores per hole count.
On the course's Holes 15-18 – the 3 best scores per hole count.
In the event of a tie, the lowest overall handicap is weighted.
The team captain fills out a scorecard for the team, which is handed in to the office after the match.
Old Boys offers 2 sandwiches per player, drinks at own expense.
Electronic Scorecard on mobile phone
We received feedback from 14 members about participating in a short training course on completing scorecards on the phone and have invited them to training on 2 different days – April 3rd at 12:00 and April 4th at 16:00.
If you are one of those who thought: “That might be a very good idea” – but couldn’t bring yourself to sign up, then reply to this email with which day you want to show up – then you can still come along 🙂

New Disability Regulations 2024 will be introduced in two phases (06/03-2024 (Danish Golf Union))
As previously announced, the R&A and USGA have released an updated 2024 version of the Handicap Rules. In Denmark, we have mentioned this update several times and in several places and announced a joint launch of the new rules as of April 1, 2024. However, the Danish Golf Union has decided to divide the phasing in of the new Handicap Rules into two stages – as of April 1, 2024 and as of January 1, 2025.
First phase – effective April 1, 2024:
- Introduction of rating of short courses
- Possibility of handicap adjustment in pairs tournaments (Four-Ball)
Second phase – effective from January 1, 2025:
- Introduction of 9-hole Course Rating
- New method for up-scaling 9-hole rounds and interrupted rounds to 18-hole results
Justification and details:
The introduction of 9-hole Course Ratings involves a major overhaul of the DGU database and GolfBox. The system is ready for the start of the season, but after that there is a lot of work for the clubs to do with the update to courses that now also contain 9-hole ratings. These changes include new conversion tables, new options for printing scorecards (for 9 or 18 holes, depending on a player's previous round selection) and changes to the setup of course selection in tournaments.
DGU assesses that this work will be too extensive and disruptive for the clubs to carry out at the same time as the start of the season and during the season. We have therefore chosen to postpone the implementation of the introduction of 9-hole ratings until 2025.
There will of course be thorough guidance to the clubs regarding this. We plan to begin that process no later than mid-August 2024.
The individual main points:
Valid from April 1, 2024
- Introduction of rating of short courses. Courses with a minimum length of 685 for 9 holes can be rated and then used for handicap-counting rounds. There is no longer a requirement that there must be at least one par-4 hole.
The courses will be rated during 2024 through a process where clubs that wish to be rated will complete a form for DGU with information about data from the course in question. A rating will then be issued, which can be found in GolfBox in line with other rated courses. There will be a certain processing time for such ratings depending on the timing and volume of courses submitted. - Possibility of handicap adjustment in pairs tournaments (Four-Ball). If such a tournament is set up as handicap counting in GolfBox, the system will automatically calculate whether a player's individual contribution to the team's score qualifies for handicap adjustment. New Rule 5.10 in the Handicap Rules describes the prerequisites for this to be done.
Valid from January 1, 2025
- Introduction of 9-hole Course Rating. Effective 2025, a course rating will be divided into a front-9 rating, a back-9 rating and an overall 18-hole rating, where until now we have only had an overall 18-hole rating. In other words, you will receive a 9-hole scorecard if you choose to play 9 holes, or an 18-hole scorecard if that is what you have planned.
For the player, this has an impact on the handicap assigned, as the rating is often different for the front 9 and back 9. For example, if we play 9 holes today, we get half the 18-hole handicap – let's say 10, if we have a total of 20 strokes assigned. But in the future, we will be able to get 11 strokes on the front 9 if we choose this for our 9-hole round, and if the front 9 is rated “more difficult” than the back 9.
New method for up-scaling to 18-hole Handicap Score. Effective January 1, 2025, the method for scaling up a 9-hole round (or an interrupted 18-hole round) to an 18-hole Handicap Score will change. The calculation assumes that 9-hole ratings have been introduced. Today, a 9-hole round is scaled up by adding 17 points to the 9 unplayed holes on the 18-hole course. And a round that is interrupted after 13 holes, for example, is added 1 point to the first unplayed hole and 2 points to the rest. In the future, an “Expected Handicap Score” will instead be calculated, which is also based on the player’s handicap, among other things. A different score will therefore be calculated for players with different handicaps.
Kind regards
The Board of Directors of Old Boys
