We started the month with a Friday off, the last of its kind – you can read about that at the end of this email – before we continued with the 2nd part of this year's Tee Championship and the first tentative start with electronic score registration on May 19th – you can also read more about how it went below.
Have you read the Danish Golf Magazine May 2023 – no. 2 – in which there are 125 little stories about KGK. Item number 79 states that KGK does not have a Men's Club!?? And that the women's club – "Tuesday Club" has existed since 1947. We do not know who has provided the Danish Golf Union with information about KGK, but both pieces of information are, in our opinion, incorrect!
KGK has a men's club called the "Old Boys Club" (which has existed for 45 years) and the Tuesday Club - which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, must have been founded in 1948 to be appropriate!
Unfortunately, we have had a cancellation for the Old Boys Golf trip to Emporda Golf Resort and PGA Catalunya in October - if you would like to come along and stay in a single room, please contact the chairman.
May 12 – 2nd division of the Tee Championship
Today's match was played in the most beautiful weather with blue skies and sun from the morning and almost no wind.
Erik Fabrin celebrated his 82nd birthday by winning the match with 41 points ahead of Poul Hansen with 39 and with Christian Strandgaard in 3rd place with 36 points. Christian is a new member and thus had a great debut – unfortunately he had left when the prizes were to be awarded, which is why the prize went to the club according to our rules – and we are of course grateful for that.
The next section from tee 52 will be held on June 16.
May 18 – Sprinter Cup
The traditional match on Ascension Day (which has nothing to do with the Old Boys Club) had no fewer than 3 Old Boys in the top 10 and with Niels Christian Nielsen as the winner with 44 points.
Big CONGRATULATIONS to Niels Christian on the great victory.
May 19 – Electronic Live Score Trial 1
Then we tried out the electronic score recording and it was – not surprisingly – received with mixed feelings. The vast majority of people had no problems typing the score on the phone instead of writing it on the scorecard and that was great – but it was not the same success with everyone and in the C-row, where there was already great skepticism from the start about whether the phone could be better than a physical scorecard?
Some therefore used both and came to a different result and therefore they believed that the electronic system did not work as intended. But whether you enter the score on the phone during the round or on a computer after the round in the same system makes no difference and those who experienced a difference simply must not have entered the same score on the phone as on the scorecard!
We know that all changes at Old Boys are difficult – we experienced the same thing when we introduced registration for Friday matches via Golfbox instead of having to sign up on a list in the locker room at the club as before! But today, hardly anyone has problems registering for games on Fridays via Golfbox from home?
The same applies to the electronic live score, which we are convinced will be an advantage when it is incorporated as a normal routine in Old Boys – we just need to try it out a few times.
One of the advantages is that when you have played your last hole and entered the score, the score for the ball is submitted in Golfbox and "the electronic scorecard is submitted" - so you will have no problems submitting before the 4.5 hours have passed! If everyone in the ball keeps score after each hole played, the system will react immediately if a different score is entered into the system - so that incorrect entry is eliminated.
Some asked why there wasn't a marker in connection with the match - and the answer to that is that we wanted to make it as simple as possible this first time it was tested, because of course you can designate before the round who in the ball will be the marker, who then has to approve the score on their own phone after the round.
We admit that new routines often seem confusing until they are firmly established – but we will have to succeed, otherwise we will have a problem when/if the Office can no longer support us with our matches – and electronic score registration is the way forward – just look at the Sprinter Cup, which was played on Ascension Day, where electronic Live Score was also used and without protests from the players! We will try again next month, but we cannot say yet when – it will be clear from the start list when it is sent out.
GF INSURANCE was a very generous sponsor of the match in all 3 rows, as they came with a whopping 24 bottles of wine!

The A-row:
3 bottles of wine were won by Philippe Chanut
2 bottles of wine by Finn Allingstrup
1 bottle of wine Michael Gerlif (Erik Fabrin came in 3rd place, but his wine went on to 4th place, as Erik had won wine twice in a row.
B-row:
3 bottles of wine were won by Niels Holst Laursen
2 bottles of wine by Niels Walløe
1 bottle of wine by Kersi Porbunderwalla
C-row:
3 bottles of wine were won by Erik Hamre
2 bottles of wine by Søren Juhl Hansen
1 bottle of wine by Mikael Thorsen
In addition, there were 6 bottles of wine as a prize.
Some winners had left before the prize presentation, so 2 bottles of wine went to the Old Boys Club – we thank you for that 🙂
GF INSURANCE – didn't get to talk to so many of you, so we've given them permission to come another day after a match.
May 26
Modified Stroke Play with Running Start and the first of its kind where all 3 rows played the same match format.
There were only 6 participants in the B-row and this is probably because more people had chosen the A-row from Tee 57 to get a higher playing handicap and thus a potentially lower net result?
The A-row had 15 starters, but one went out halfway and it cost a bottle of wine for number 3. If you have any doubts about whether you can handle playing 18 holes, then for goodness sake only play 9 so you don't ruin it for others.
The match was won by:
A-row: Niels Christian Nielsen ahead of Jens Frederik Hansen and with Ib Jacobsen in 3rd place.
B-row: Steen Mahneke ahead of Kersi Porbunderwalla and with Niels Holst Laursen in 3rd place
C-row: Henrik Pedersen ahead of Torben Haghfelt and with Christian Geisler in 3rd place
Inherit Superstar
On Tuesday, May 9th, the Tuesday Club had their annual match with a subsequent fashion show, where several prominent people were models and showcased the shop's clothing selection. Among the prominent models were Anne-Mette and director Christian from Kontoret – and our own Arve Sund. Reportedly, there was a huge roar, much louder than a red deer in rut, when Arve first entered the "catwalk" 😊
Who knows, maybe we'll do something similar in Old Boys sometime in the future?
Cancellations for matches after the starting list has been sent out
Remember that if you are forced to cancel after the start list has been sent out, notify the Office - no one on the Old Boys Board has access to edit Golfbox - only the Office can do that.
Elimination of Continuous Start
We intend to abolish the monthly Running Starts and introduce Backward Gun Starts every Friday. It is undeniably nicer that we can all eat lunch almost at the same time instead of up to 1 hour apart.
So unless there is an outcry, we will abolish Continuous Start from April 1, 2024 (we would have abolished it from August 1 this year, but that would probably be too big an upheaval – therefore not until next season 🙂 ).
New members
This month we can welcome KGK member 1-1794 Mr. Jørgen Dinitzen and 1-2975 Kennet Filsø Madsen as new members of Old Boys.
A former member has regretted his failure to pay his dues and has become a member again. We are now up to 103 members.
Birthday:

May
On June 27, member 1-865 Karsten Philip will celebrate his 90th birthday.
It is impressive that Karsten, despite his advanced age, can still manage to play 18 holes.
Karsten thus played in the first round of the Tee Championship from Tee 61 – respect!
The board sends its greetings on the day.
June
Next month offers 2 x 4+7+9 matches, a friendly match with Hornbæk, the 3rd division of the Tee Championship from tee 52 and a gift card match.
The 9-hole game is canceled on June 9th and Erik Hamre is traveling for a large part of the month - so on June 2nd the chairman will take care of the 9-holes and on June 23rd Niels Walløe will do it if Erik is not back.
Only on June 16th we have a problem and if we don't find someone to help, you have to wait until we get in.
Great Day of Prayer
So we've put this day in the grave and we can look forward to having an extra game day in the future 🙂

Play well – remember sunscreen – also on your ears!
Kind regards
The Board of Directors of Old Boys
Copenhagen Golf Club
