Capital match 14 to 16 July 2023

The Capital Match has been played since 1938, when Sweden's Crown Prince Gustav Adolf instituted it and presented a trophy. Only during the years during the war and most recently during the corona has it not been played. The order of the capitals is fixed and is only interrupted when a country wins the trophy, at which point the royal house presents a new one and the match is then played in that country, after which the order is resumed. It must be won 4 times before it becomes property and a new one is presented.

This year the match was held on the home course of Copenhagen Golf Club.

The team consists of 3 men in the hcp groups

-2.4. – 3.4

3.5 – 7.4

7.5 – 11.4

And since 1980 supplemented with a lady hcp -2.4. -10.4, the lady plays with a handicap.

All players must be 22 years of age or older.

The tournament committee selects the team at its own discretion.

It looks at:

That the player is actively participating in the club's official tournaments that year.

That there is a regulated handicap for the season in question, which shows a picture of the player's current form.

This year the team was composed of Hans Victor (team captain), Thomas Buch Jensen, Tuula Undal and Jacob G. Schou.

And this year KGK WON. A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO HANS, THOMAS, TUULA AND JACOB.

Here is some nice feedback from the Norwegian team;

"On behalf of all of us from Oslo Golf Club, I want to thank you for a superb and very nice weekend at Copenhagen Golf Club.

The hospitality you showed was top class from A to Z. Incredibly nice people who work in the ice club/restaurant. As for the track, it was a great experience. A fantastic one path you have and no less fantastic with all the animals peacefully wandering around. A new record was taken with pictures on a golf course.

The Danish team was simply in a class by itself and won very deservedly. We did what we could to beat them, but some tasks are simply too difficult"

Here is also some great feedback from the Danish team;

“Tournament managers: Ina, Jette, Lars H and Peter H – you all helped put the finishing touches on the event.

Such a nice welcome speech by Ina on Friday evening, in English, so that even the Finns understood what was being said. That's right, Ina. Thank you😊

And Jette, who was faithfully standing at the first tee – both Saturday and Sunday – where she made sure everything was in order and wished us a good trip. Thank you, Jette.

And Lars H who assisted Jette with the draw on Friday night – so much fun. Thanks Lars.

And Peter H, who shared his knowledge about the course, and who also acted as a taxi driver on Sunday, transporting the Finns' and Norwegians' luggage from the clubhouse down to the red gate at Springforbivej. Thanks Peter.

And the course received great praise. Our guests were blown away by the nature, the animals and our greens. Like this😊

I can't write this email without also mentioning our team captain, Hans Victor😊
He has kept all of us on the team informed about what was going to happen and when. We have color-coordinated clothes for each day, and then Hans gave a speech on Saturday night, where he managed to mix ChatGPT (artificial intelligence model) with his own knowledge. We were all laughing out loud – and were all impressed. And yes, we (Hans, Jacob, Thomas and Tuula) won the Capitals Golf Tournament 2023 – the same year that Copenhagen Golf Club celebrates its 125th anniversary, the club's name will be on the Cup.

It took a lot of words, but I feel it is important that the many beautiful words that have come from our Nordic friends over the weekend reach all the way around. 😊”
