Life in the KGK Old Boys Club in September 2022 as well as important information.

the track august 2022

A very busy September is drawing to a close and we are entering the last month of the season. It has gone by so quickly this year – we feel like we have only just started! September has offered a wide range of activities, which you can read about below. Please note that at the end of the page there is a notice calling for this year's General Meeting.

Important Information!!

The end of the 2022 season has been moved forward one week - so that we will exceptionally end on Friday, October 21st!

The reason is that the start time for the renovation of the restaurant has been postponed 14 days to Monday, October 24th and that by bringing forward our Closing and General Assembly, we will be able to dispose of the entire restaurant and thus avoid the General Assembly having to be held outside on the terrace and lunch inside the Lounge - or vice versa!

Report / result matches in September:

Open Men's Day September 2nd

80 gentlemen had registered for this year's match, including 50 participants from other clubs, including participants from both Jutland and Sweden. Unfortunately, the chairman had to cancel that morning – for the first time ever – but a mischievous team in the back after gardening the day before made it impossible to play. The weather showed its best side and despite a slightly cool morning, it became warmer during the day – and all players had a fantastic day of golf at Eremitage Sletten.

Gustav from Con Avec Vin & Spiritus had once again provided great prizes for the top 4 in each category – the board would like to thank Gustav a THOUSAND THANKS for his support of the prize table and for his contribution to making the day as successful as it was.

All prize winners

Best results of Old Boys players were:

C-row: 1st place for Niels Christian Nielsen + 4th place for Poul Birch

B-row: 4th place for Jens Frederik Hansen

– the board wishes everyone a hearty congratulations!

Hans Jørgen Nyegaard took care of the applause prize, which this year was a drawing/portrait of himself!

September 9th – This year's excursion to Falsterbo

After a long period of dry weather, about 30 mm of rain fell the night before the trip to Sweden – and it also rained all the way to Falsterbo – but a true Old Boy defies both weather and wind and went to Sweden fresh. As if by magic, just before the match started, it brightened up and we completed the match almost in sunshine the entire round.

Falsterbo is a lovely course and for the participants who were going on the trip to Ireland later in September, it was a really good challenge and dress rehearsal – and it was probably good that in Ireland we played with a special local rule for ball in rough 🙂 The winner was Michael Gerlif with 34 points ahead of Kersi Porbunderwalla with 32 and Mikael Randel with 30. Here are a few mood pictures:

September 16 – Regular Stableford

What a rainy and windy weather! The first 12-13 holes were played in incessant rain and wind and it left its mark on the day's scores. The A-row was won by Erik Fabrin with 33 points. In the B-row we were supposed to play for 2 bottles of wine, but first a player didn't show up (bad style), then a player dropped out after 9 holes (bad style) and since both of these players were in the same flight, the last man had to finish the round alone and be disqualified for not having played with a marker = the two bottles of wine we were supposed to play for were changed to only one – and it then affected the chairman, who for a long time thought he had won with 29 points, as that was the highest score until all scorecards were entered into GolfBox. Then it turned out that Steen Mahneke's marker had filled out his scorecard incompletely and that he had not made 28 points, which he had signed, but 30.

When you sign a scorecard with an incorrect score – shouldn't you be disqualified – you might think? But here you have to separate the result and the score. It is the recorded score for each hole that determines whether a scorecard is correct or not. Example: If a 5 was recorded on the 3rd hole of the scorecard, but the player had actually made a 6, then the player would have been disqualified. In that case, the score for hole 3 was completely omitted and only the number of strokes was recorded. You sign that the score is correct, not that the result has been correctly added up. If you sign a higher score than the actual score, you are not disqualified, but the score is corrected to the higher score after entering it in GolfBox. The C-series was won by Kaj Møller Hansen.

The chairman was very pleased that all players – despite the bad weather – played the 18 holes within the time limit. This proves that there is absolutely no excuse for not being able to play the 18 holes in 4.5 hours in dry weather!

September 23 – 5th Division Tee Championship

Then came the turn for tee 45 and the last section of this year's championship. Many will certainly experience the course to be quite different from tee 45 than they are used to – because suddenly many other obstacles are in play when you have to hit your drive. 17 happy Old Boys lined up for the start and the last section had many great scores. The winner with 41 points was Michael Ankjær ahead of Michael Laursen with 39 and Michael Elkiær Andersen with 36. It will be exciting when this year's results are announced on the last day of the year on October 21. The C-series was won by Theis Jensen with 22 points!

September 25-29 – The first Old Boys golf trip to Ireland

On Sunday 25th September, 16 expectant – some might even say ‘excited’ – Old Boys set off for Dublin (on the first flight) and everyone was looking forward to 3 exciting courses and to developing the good camaraderie between rounds. I don’t think anyone was disappointed, neither by the courses (the first 2 were fantastic and the last one had prickly greens – unfortunately) nor by the company, who had a blast every single night 🙂 🙂 See travel description HERE

September 30 – Modified Stroke Play

Back on the Plain and with bunkers that it was possible to tee off from – a total of 20 players played 18 holes and 12 played 9 holes. The weather was relatively fine with only a little rain at the start. We played Modified Stroke Play and the great winner of the two rows was Erik Fabrin in the A row and Henrik Valdorf in the B row. The C row was won by Lars Monrad-Gylling.

Birthdays

1-369 Torsten Vieth 80 years 4 October

The board sends its greetings on the day.

Club 107

This month we have received registrations from 4 KGK members: 1-417 Mr. Arne Bierfreund, 1-540 Mr. Scott Campbell, 1-3022 Mr. Nils Juhl Andreasen and 1-3095 Mr. Leif Christensen – and the club is now up to 107 members. We warmly welcome the new members and look forward to playing with them.

Landmark

If you think the chairman is smiling extra much these days, it is certainly because he has reached a milestone in the Old Boys Club, as when he took over the job back in December 2017, we had 107 members of our club in the club – just like we have now! The only difference is that when the chairman took over, it turned out that 29 of the members had not paid their dues for 1-2 years, but they still appeared on the membership list. That has been sorted out now 🙂

Look forward to Friday.

Next Friday we will play a port wine match, where there is a nice bottle for the positions 4+7+9 in both the A and B rows. We can inform you that each bottle costs 185 DKK and we can reveal that it is quite a bit more than the red wines we usually hand out 🙂 Play well – so I win 🙂

Winter tournament?

Again this year we are holding a Winter Tournament similar to last year. You must again register via GolfBox no later than November 6. Payment of the Match Fee continues to be made via MobilePay to the chairman at 21644616 – just provide your membership number – it costs 50 DKK and the amount goes exclusively to prizes. You can register in 3 rows: A row plays from Tee 57, B row from Tee 52 and C row 9 holes from Tee 49. GolfBox is already ready to accept your registration.

The office has made a completely new registration in GolfBox and has not used an old match from the Junior Department this year, as was the case last year. See rules for the tournament HERE.

We end as we started – with a Team Match over 12 holes from Tee 52 with the following conditions:

On the course's Holes 1-4 – it is the best score per hole that counts

On the course's Holes 5-8 – the 2 best scores per hole count.

On the course's Holes 15-18 – the 3 best scores per hole count.

In the event of a tie, the lowest overall handicap is weighted.

After the match, the board offers the participants lunch and again this year it is chicken in red curry.

All drinks are, as usual, at your own expense.

You register in GolfBox during the Club Tournament. When you register for the Final Match, you are automatically registered for lunch + General Assembly.

Invitations to this match will also be sent out in October along with final points for the General Assembly.

Quote of the month:

"When I was young - I was a poor golfer - but after years of play and practice, I am no longer young"
